January: The Unglaubs launch to Burkina Faso Kurt and Margaret Unglaub, with their three children, began their pioneering work among the animist Lobi people of Burkina Faso, one of the world’s poorest countries.
February: The Scalzis complete their Philippine project After six years, the Scalzi family bid farewell to the vibrant, growing churches they had planted among the Philippine Ifugao people, and AFM praised God for its first completed project. They left a well-established church of about a hundred baptized members as well as several smaller groups under the pastorship of an Ifugao layman whom Marc discipled. The Ifugao church continued to evangelize and grow, and within about two years, its membership doubled. Upon their return to the States, Marc and Aunie joined AFM’s home office staff and continued to put their wealth of experience to use furthering Christ’s kingdom.
November 17: Baxters launch to India John and Beth Baxter, became AFM’s first missionaries to a new continent—India. They launched to Mirzapur, a teeming city of 250,000. |
